Video of Ricardo Alfonso Cerna fatally shooting himself in the head while sitting in an interview room at the Sheriff’s Department
A San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputy of 14 years has been fired after being accused of assaulting a man during an arrest.
Michael Parham, 40, of Rancho Cucamonga, was no longer employed with the department as of Friday, Nov. 9, sheriff’s spokeswoman Jodi Miller said.
Parham was hired by the department in 1998 and made news in 2004 when he was shot twice by a man during a traffic stop in Muscoy and survived. Parham’s assailant, Ricardo Alfonso Cerna, later fatally shot himself in the head while sitting in an interview room at the Sheriff’s Department. Cerna was not properly searched during his arrest, which was attributed mainly to the fact that several law enforcement agencies, including the San Bernardino Police Department and the California Highway Patrol, responded to the call.
